The Foreign Ministry has advised Malaysian citizens to postpone any travel plans to Bangladesh due to the country’s unstable situation. The ministry is actively observing the developments in Bangladesh through the Malaysian High Commission in Dhaka. The ministry also acknowledges the formation of Bangladesh’s interim government, which aims to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of public administration.

“Malaysian citizens living in Bangladesh are encouraged to register with the High Commission of Malaysia in Dhaka. They are also advised to stay alert, avoid areas of conflict, and follow the instructions of local authorities,” the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry has committed to keeping the public updated on any new developments. They are making every effort to ensure that any changes or important information regarding the situation are communicated promptly and effectively to ensure the safety and well-being of Malaysian citizens.

According to media reports, over 200 people have been killed in protests that initially started in mid-July as a movement against job quotas in government positions. These protests escalated into a larger campaign, ultimately leading to the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Reports indicate that Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the chief adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government. This development comes after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country amidst a violent crackdown on a student-led uprising.

On Tuesday, Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved Parliament, clearing the path for the interim government and upcoming elections. Additionally, his office announced the release of Begum Khaleda Zia, the leader of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and a former prime minister who had a long-standing rivalry with Hasina.

Malaysian citizens are advised to prioritize their safety amid the current situation. In case of any emergencies, the Foreign Ministry has provided contact details for the High Commission of Malaysia in Dhaka. Citizens can reach out to the High Commission at House No. 19, Road No. 6, Baridhara Diplomatic Enclave, Dhaka – 1212, Bangladesh. For general inquiries, they can call +880 2410 81892 or +880 2410 81895. In urgent situations, they should use the emergency contact number +88 018 4179 8077. Additionally, they can email mwdhaka@kln.gov.my for further assistance.
