Malaysia is building its reputation as a premier destination for business events and travel among Indian companies, following a significant surge in tourist numbers from India. At this year’s South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) trade fair in New Delhi, Malaysia’s focus on the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions, (MICE) sector took centre stage. Tourism Malaysia highlighted various incentives and promotional efforts to attract Indian businesses seeking work class corporate event venues.
Malaysia: A Recognized Leader in Event Tourism
Malaysia was named the best MICE destination in 2024 in the Indian market, reinforcing its growing look for corporate events. The Director of Tourism Malaysia’s New Delhi office, Ahmad Johanif Mohd Ali, emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to supporting MICE groups by offering attractive and incentives packages.
During a networking dinner hosted by Tourism Malaysia, he revealed that MyCEB (Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau), Langkawi and Penang are the key locations that provide incentives for business events. These initiatives will further enhance Malaysia’s position as a top choice for International conferences, corporate events and incentive travel.

As part of its tourism promotion in India, Malaysia is targeting travelers interested in shopping, family vacations, theme parks and honeymoon packages. However, new promising areas such as destination weddings, golf tourism and business events are also getting an increased traction.
Tourist arrivals from India grew nearly 72% in 2024, reaching 1.13 million visitors compared to the previous year. A key reason for this growth is the Malaysian government’s decision to extend the 30 day visa exemption policy for Indian travelers until 31st December 2026. The visa process has led to a surge in last minute bookings, making it the reason for the growth.
To accommodate the high demand, Malaysia Airlines currently operates over 70 flights weekly between India and Malaysia, with plans to increase capacity. Recent collaborations with Indian airline IndiGo have introduced direct Bengaluru-Langkawi and Chennai-Penang routes, while Air India has expanded its service to KL since September 2023.
With an increasing number of Indian companies choosing Malaysia for their corporate events, the country continues to keep its stand as a leading destination for international business travel. Malaysia’s commitment to enhance MICE infrastructure and expand connectivity is expected to drive more growth in this sector and attract more corporate groups.
