In an effective effort to strengthen the participation of local workers in Malaysia’s golf industry, the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), through the Malaysian Indian Skills Initiative (MISI) has introduced a training programme that provides skills and job opportunities for the Indian community.
According to AMS Caddy Academy, which is innovating the initiative in collaboration with the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA), the training programme aims to encourage more Indian youth to explore career opportunities in the growing gold industry while ensuring local workers remain competitive.
“The MISI programme not only provides skills training but also guarantees employment upon completion of training”, says AMS Caddy Academy.
The programme offers participants a benefit package including insurance coverage, a structured career development plan and salary exceeding the national minimum wage. Such initiatives are designed to attract the local youth and provide them with a stable and promising career path within the golf industry.

A recent graduation ceremony for the second batch of trainees under the Skills Training with Job Guarantee Scheme was held at Palm Resort Golf and Country Club, Senai, Johor. Deputy Minister of Communications and Kulai MP, Teo Nie Ching, attended the event and highlighted the importance of the programme in addressing labor shortage in the golf industry.
Teo Nie Ching stated that there is a nationwide demand for approximately 4000 caddies but currently there’s only 2000 positions filled. She emphasized that many of the positions are occupied by foreign workers, a trend the government hopes to change by equipping local youth with the skills needed and opportunities.

With the Malaysian government actively pushing for a better workforce among local talents, the MISI training programme stands as an important step towards providing Indian youth with stable employment while boosting Malaysia’s golf industry. As the programme continues to expand, it is expected to bridge employment gaps and create sustainable job opportunities for the local community in Malaysia.
