In 2017, four young Malaysians were selected to attend a US military academy. Nearly five years on, all four of them graduated from the United States Military Academy (US). They studied alongside cadets from all over the world to become military professionals.
Among them was an Indian young lad, Sayniish Pillay Muniandy who graduated from the National Defence University of Malaysia with two other cadets, Muhammad Salihin Mohd Sabri and Wan Kamal Fitri Wan Kama.
Only 23 Malaysian cadets have been accepted into US military academies in the last 20 years, according to a report in Free Malaysia Today.
Sayniish was fortunate to be chosen from among thousands of applicants and proud to represent Malaysia when he received his placement at the United States Military Academy in West Point (Usma), New York.
Hailing from Taping, Perak, his mother had wished for him to join the military since he was a child.
The 22-year-old had also excelled academically as a cadet at West Point – The United States Military Academy. The commandant of West Point honoured him as the best squad leader during a field training exercise for the Academy’s Class of 2021.
Aside from that, he designed the official crest for his graduating class, which won a competition at the academy, according to The Star in 2018.
Sayniish worked for four days on his design, which included the US flag and an eagle – elements that had been part of West Point class crests since 1803.
According to FMT, after graduating, the Taiping boy plans to serve as an infantryman in Malaysia’s 8th Rangers of the Royal Ranger Regiment or in the Malaysian Army Aviation.
