They say, “chemistry is like cooking but don’t lick the spoon,” well we couldn’t agree more, yet it actually does mean something as chemistry itself can be a good or bad thing but one Malaysian lady made good chemistry giving her international recognition at the same time. Mad respect!
A dedicated chemistry teacher, V. Komathy from SMK Ave Maria Convent, Ipoh has made a great and impactful change at the Global Teacher Award 2021 for being conferred the award after receiving a notification via e-mail by the organisers.
The 38-year-old, who’s been in the teaching field for the past 14 years, won international recognition during a virtual event held on 24th October at the AKS Education Awards’ official Facebook page and YouTube channel. The award ceremony was held to honour and appreciate teachers from all over the world who go above and beyond to make a difference in their students’ lives.
Komathy, obtained a master’s degree in chemistry education from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and is currently pursuing a doctorate in the same field at the same university as well. She has generated a series of innovative products that have received international recognition in order to pique students’ interest in chemistry.
Based on The Star report, the educator who is a mother of three stated that past accolades, as well as the Global Teacher Award 2021, will serve as an incentive to teach, develop a more evolved nation, and continue to make numerous discoveries in the field of chemistry.
Komathy began her teaching career in 2007 at SMK Methodist Girls School in Ipoh, where she stayed for six years until relocating to SMK Buntong and subsequently to SMK Ave Maria Convent in February.
Chem-Ester Kit: Chem-Ester Kit 2.0, a PdPC Chemical product, and Biomass Activated Carbon (BAC) for Toxic Dyes Removal: Towards a Sustainable Environment, a product designed using chemistry expertise in problem solving, are two revolutionary products invented by the teacher.
