With the new government taking over, some changes are seen visible to date. Flexible working hours refer to the schedule which allows employees working hours to differ. Recently, an announcement was made by the new Human Resources Minister in regard to this matter.
The Employment Act of 1955 will soon be amended to include provisions pertaining to flexible working arrangements, said Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar.
According to The Star, Sivakumar said amendments are also included in several other plans by the ministry and that they were now collecting feedback from all related agencies in order to understand the roles and functions of every department better. In a press conference following the 29th Cuepacs Triennial Congress Convention on December 17, held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC), The Human Resouce Minister also revealed that he is looking at all existing policies and will only implement new initiatives after getting the necessary input. He will be needing weeks’ time to gather sufficient information.

Meanwhile, The Star reported that the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) reiterated its call to the government to raise the minimum wage of civil servants from RM1,200 to RM1,800. Its president Datuk Adnan Mat said the proposal was put forward three years ago but because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the change of the government, it has not been studied thoroughly.
“We appeal to the government to relook at the minimum wage proposal because the present scheme is too far behind. We are hoping the new government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will review the proposal to increase the minimum wage to RM1,800,” he said.
Let’s wait until the government makes its final decision on this. Stay updated.
