Nowadays, university students not only attend university to study and further their higher education, but they also want to make a positive impact and contribute to the society in which they live. We, as individuals who live in our community, have a responsibility to help as much as we can in our own spheres, of course.
On that line, Universiti Malaya’s Tamil Language Society presents the Student Service Corp. It has thrived and has come forward in assisting and uplifting the Indian community from rural and urban areas for the past 46 years.
The 47th Student Service Corp is back this year with a brand-new team and a fresh mission. On a mentor-mentee basis, they will guide a group of Form 3 students. The main purpose is to provide the students with appropriate tools and knowledge on topics such as education, mental health, leadership, the future of work, and a glimpse into the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
These useful tidbits of information would later aid Form 3 pupils as they make their way to Form 4, where they would have to choose their preferred stream.
This programme will run from September 1 to September 4, 2021, and a total of 60 participants from all over Malaysia have been chosen to participate in the 47th Student Service Corp initiative.
Throughout its years of service, Student Service Corp has identified and channelled appropriate assistance to communities in need. While balancing rural and urban poverty, the Student Service Corp has consistently raised awareness of community issues such as school dropout rates, unemployment, and crime, as well as reinforcing information on educational opportunities, legal rights, aids, and social support.
While the pandemic may have hindered direct aid efforts, the 47th Student Service Corp continues to assist the Malaysian community by increasing awareness about available financial aid.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, the team makes informative posters and video guides and posts them on the official social media sites of the Tamil Language Society of Universiti Malaya.
