As we head into the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and surviving MCO 2.0, many families have been living on the brittles of hardship to cope with the on-going harsh lockdown. Trust me, it hasn’t been easy for all of us.
The brutal pandemic has caused a loss of income or a significant reduce in salaries, worst with only essential organisations allowed to operate, leaving thousands with job losses and more families falling into the B40 category in our country.
The announcement made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day, stated that after the revision of the poverty level from RM980 monthly income to RM2,208, more than 400,000 households residing in the Federal Territories are categorised as part of the urban poor.
Hence in efforts to help the families, free rice packets will be provided every week to poor families residing In the Federal Territories of KL, putrajaya & labuan starting this month.
In a joint initiative by the Ministry of the Federal Territories, Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan and the Federal Territories Residents Representative Council, some 5,750 packets of free rice will be distributed to struggling families.
Muhyiddin Yassin stated;
“The Federal Territories Ministry, via the [email protected] programme, will be giving out 5,750 rice sacks a week for free to B40 families in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan from today,” he said on Sunday (31st January) in conjunction with Federal Territory Day on Monday (1st February).
This initiative to provide basic necessities such as rice packets to B40 citizens residing at the respective area is a venture under the Urban Poverty Programme (5MY).
The Prime Minister has also mentioned that, according to data collected by SOCSO, as of December more than 6,805 people had lost their jobs, thus the FT Ministry has allocated 3,259 job vacancies in various industries through [email protected] initiative to combat this inherent problem.
There is an estimation that almost more than 1,000 fresh graduates are guaranteed to be employed through the [email protected] skim initiated by the government for the well being and future of our community.
