We are currently in the endemic phase, with no death cases being reported a few days ago, for the first time since December 2020. These must have given the impression that all would come to an end and we would be set free, but it appears that this is not the case.

According to NST, based on the virus epidemiological development in other countries, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced a new wave of infection may occur.

“The country’s Covid-19 crisis is under control. I have indicated before that there will be highs and lows in case numbers, as well as waves from time to time”, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

“Perhaps in two to three months, we would experience a new wave. We have no idea how long it is or how big it is”, he added.

In a press conference yesterday, the Health Minister stated that people in specific groups, such as the elderly and those with chronic health issues, are encouraged to boost their immunity with vaccine doses.

Apart from that, Khairy Jamaluddin highlighted that under the five-day National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids) that was resumed from Monday (June 20) till Friday (June 24), 397 children received their first dose of vaccination.

According to Khairy, 107,844 persons have received their second booster dose, with 57,834 of them being over the age of 60.

If your children between the ages of 5 to 11 have not had their immunisation shot, please take them to the nearest health centre by Friday (June 24) to gain access.

“We will keep encouraging seniors and others with chronic illness to receive the second booster shot. We have not heard of any major negative effects from the second booster dose yet”, claimed the minister of health.

As per Khairy, on June 16, the government released a circular and guideline to the private sector on the use of Paxlovid, the first oral antiviral medicine in Malaysia to treat Covid-19 patients and it has been in use since June 20.

Ensure to wear a mask when necessary and to sanitise your hands frequently.

Take precautions and be safe.
