During the pandemic, it was ruthlessly strenuous for us as human beings to cope with the horrendous situation. However, have you ever thought about the condition of the animals left stranded on the streets? They must have found the situation to be baffling as well.
However, a young lass had taken up the task of providing a home to the animals that were ditched on the streets during the hectic situation.
Meet Darshini Naidu, a compassionate animal saviour who is still relentlessly rescuing abandoned pets.
The 27-year-old administrator remarks that amid the global pandemic she began to see more animals being abandoned. She who always had a soft corner for animals and wanted to do more for them hence made the decision to take in abandoned dogs, particularly those who were ill or wounded near her home.
She would send the dogs which have been rescued to the vet before keeping them in a vacant house owned by her friend in Taman Pelangi. Following that, she opened a social media account to display and share her animal rescue effort with everyone and try to get them to adopt the hounds. (She has now gained over 19k followers on Instagram)
To date, Darshini has rescued over 100 dogs and neutered 100 more to help control the growing population of stray animals.
I try my best to get the dogs adopted, but not all of them get a forever home – Darshini Naidu
The gentlewoman expresses that the puppies are easily adopted but the dogs often do not get much interest since some of the are in dire condition, disabled or suffering from cancer.
Following her great initiative, it attracts many good-hearted people who tend to donate to her effort which boosted her to rescue more dogs.
During the Christmas season last year, this animal enthusiast rented a house in Tebrau with a bigger compound for the dogs to roam around in.
The independent rescuer mentioned that at one time she will only take in up to 25 dogs as she is the only sole person who is managing the place presently and also said most of the dogs in the shelter are sick or injured.

To date, there are 24 furry friends in the shelter.
Their homes are cleaned every evening, according to Darshini. She also feeds, treats, and spends time with the dogs there.
She added that she would go to the shelter after work to take care of the dogs before going home. She spends roughly RM1,400 per month on utilities and dog food and RM1,600 monthly rent on the home.
It is indeed touching to witness the amount of generous kindness and devotion Darshini has for the animals.
