SJK(T) Bayan Lepas, Penang has raised RM20,049 to acquire laptops for students coming from low-income and marginalised family backgrounds.
As we are aware Malaysian students had their education put on hold during the Movement Control Order (MCO) phase. Addressing the crucial need for learners who are stripped off the resources required to help them deal with distance learning in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tamil school agreed to raise funds to help provide laptops for 83 students.
They decided to make and sell cloth bags that can be reused and eventually recycled, in keeping with the environmental awareness philosophy of the school.
With the support of the school headmaster and the public, they had successfully collected funds and preserved the school’s ideology on the environment.
The school’d headmaster Sangga Sinnayah said that they managed to sell 1,500 bags to raise sufficient funds for 40 students, who will get the laptops by the end of this week. The second batch of 2,000 bags is being prepared to raise funds for another 43 devices to be delivered by the end of the month to students.
It’s indeed a great initiative by the school management!
