Yo folks! Thank God its Friday (TGIF). This surely means you putting the whole long damn week behind and just enjoy some great movie selections that we have selected just for you. So, while you put your feet up, relax, sit back and watch your favourite movie, get your best munchies ready!
In this week’s Freaky Friday Anthologies Nite Binging, I thought of bringing you into the world of anthologies as the scene has been trending.
It’s like a series of short stories which touches on the main points, they are love, hope, faith and the very hash realities of life. It isn’t draggy nor boring.
So now let’s get into business as there are yet again five more intriguing films of these kind worth watching;
I have to say this must be the most intriguing, baffling Netflix movie and Best Tamil Movies. Solo is an anthology art film based on four different elements: Water, Air, Fire, and Earth, narrating four different people.
Solo is a film that is shot in a distinct style that you would never have come across, with heartthrob Dulquer Salman as the lead. Four different stories starring Dulquer in four different unique roles are told in the film. The four characters go through all kinds of emotions.
2Putham Pudhu Kaalai
Putham Pudhu Kaalai, an anthology, brings together five of Kollywood’s top filmmakers for a lockdown project. Sudha Kongara Prasad, Gautham Menon, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Rajiv Menon and Karthik Subbaraj allowed their artistic juices flow and came to Putham Pudhu Kaalai with some pleasant, fun and melodramatic short stories.
All the characters are stuck at home and have nowhere else to go, thanks to the coronavirus. The essence of the film shapes how this situation mends certain relationships and how it gives birth to some.
Sillu Karuppatti is a Tamil anthology film that shows four different stories of love and only love. When the movie is over, you will be left with a smile. The movie is full of positivity and tales of the discovery of love.
The film gained positive reviews and acclaim from all. All the characters in the four stories are beautifully carved to affirm us to believe in love. The ‘feel-good‘ factor that this movie delivers is so high. The film shows that love blooms in every nook and corner of the world, regardless of factors such as age, class and circumstances.
Unpaused is sure to be your cup of tea if you are looking for an array of slice-of-life stories that are quirky, funny and adjacent to reality. The anthology features five different segments, filmed during the ongoing pandemic.
There’s a common thread in each story set during the lockdown. While a few try to delve deeply into people’s unfixable misery in the midst of the global crisis, others are stories of hope.
Last but not the least is Paava Kadhaigal. I had to add this in this list definitely as it consists of four short films that explore, through four intricate and beautiful stories, how love, pride, and honour influence complex relationships. It is a grim reminder of the kind of issues that plague this society. Also, click here to have a plunge at the review of this film.
