National shuttler Kisona Selvaduray has won the Women’s Singles in badminton at the ongoing SEA Games. Karate exponent, R Sharmendran has also brought home the gold in for the -75kg kumite event.
Kisona beat Indonesia’s Ruselli Hartawan in a power packed final with the score 20-22, 21-14, 21-13 at Muntinlupa Sports Complex, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Syed Saddiq was at the venue to cheer Kisona on. She has won Malaysia’s first gold medal from badminton.
The 21 year old hailing from Jelebu, Negri Sembilan also won the bronze medal for the badminton Women’s team event at the Games.
Kisona has been on track with her performance this year, winning gold medals at the Hellas Open Myanmar and the Sydney International.
R Sharmendran joins Kisona as a SEA Games gold medalist when he defeated Thai karate exponent Songbut Muntaen 3-0 in the final, retaining the title he won in Kuala Lumpur two years ago.

Sharmendran’s gold is Malaysia’s 43rd at the Philippines SEA Games.
