Leading up to Thaipusam celebrations in Batu Caves happening on 21 January, a few roads will be closed to make way for processions. Thaipusam will be celebrated over 3 days, starting on the 19 January when the Silver Chariot leaves Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Jalan Tun H S Lee at 10PM and is expected to arrive at Batu Caves at 230PM on 20 January.

Batu Caves Sri Subramaniar temple chairman, Tan Sri R Nadarajah, said that 1.6 million devotees are expected at the 2019 Thaipusam celebrations. The road closures in conjunction with Thaipusam was announced at a press conference recently. There will be more than 1500 police officers and 240 traffic officers on duty at 31 locations. Summons will be issued to motorists who fail to comply to road and traffic rules.

Following are the road closures for Thaipusam in Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur.

Roads fully closed on 17 January (5PM onwards) to 24 January:

  • Kampung Melayu Batu Caves traffic light (al-Amaniah mosque)
  • Batu Caves exit from MRR2
  • Jalan Perusahaan to Batu Caves
  • Sri Gombak MRR2 exit heading towards Jalan Perusahaan

Roads fully closed on 18 January (7AM onwards) to 24 January:

  • Third junction along Jalan SBC8
  • Jalan Batu Caves Lama
