A 45-year-old unemployed man was fined RM6,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here after he pleaded guilty to drink driving. M. Subramaniam from Taman PD Utama did not contest the charge after it was read to him before magistrate Siti Huzaifah Abd Talib.
The accused was detained during a police operation to nab those driving under the influence of alcohol at around 10.40pm on June 3 at KM5.5 Jalan Pantai near here. A test conducted on the accused showed that his blood alcohol content to be 219mg/100ml, which was way higher than the legal limit of 80mg alcohol/100ml.
He was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides a fine of between RM1,000 and RM6,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 12 months.
Subramaniam paid the fine.
