Abbernaa Dhevi Kukananthan is all set to pursue her studies in the United Kingdom as one of the recipients of Yayasan Khazanah (YK) prestigious scholarship for the 2019/2020 academic session.
The Kuala Lumpur-based girl is one of them selected as a YK scholar for the second of a four-part Young Leaders Series. The recipient will pursue human, social and political sciences at the University of Cambridge, UK. To date, only four of the Malaysian students have received the scholarship.
Yayasan Khazanah (YK) is the philanthropic arm of Khazanah Nasional Bhd. Established in 2006, the scholarship provides enriching development opportunities for students to grow holistically. It’s the most prestigious award that offers opportunities for talented Malaysian talents to pursue their tertiary studies at selected leading universities across the world.
“The constant support from YK has been such a calming factor that has given me a new sense of courage to push on in the pursuit of my dreams. YK was the only scholarship that supported what I wanted with a degree that encompasses deep passions of mine,” said the 21-year-old.
Although the application process was a tough one, she found it rewarding as it enabled her to realise her different strengths and weaknesses.
“There was no way you could hide your weaknesses, so you’re here to learn how to show the best side of yourself with these weaknesses. The whole process was challenging yet a holistic and comprehensive one, ” she said.
Abbernaa Dhevi believes that education is the right of every child and she hopes to share the privilege and blessings she has received by becoming part of the movement once she finishes her studies.
Congratulations on your well deserved success Abbernaa! Keep inspiring!
