Thousands of Malaysians have been evacuated from their homes as a result of the disastrous flood that shattered their homes and assets. Rivers overflowing over the weekend, flooding neighbourhoods and shutting down major roadways and highways trapping many people inside their vehicles for hours.
Many vehicles have been found completely drowned and severely damaged as a result of the worst monsoon flood ever recorded. However, if your company offers insurance, it should cover any flood damage to your vehicle.
This is how you can make a vehicle insurance claim;
1. Take pictures for proof
The first thing that you have to do is to take a picture of your vehicle. Make sure you take note of the car’s location, date and time of your car stranded in the flood. It’s advisable to take pictures that include your car’s plate number as proof.
2. Lodge a report
Next, you have to lodge a police report regarding your car’s situation. This is because the insurance company will ask for your report to proceed with the claiming process. Most importantly, the report needs to be made within 48 hours.
3. Do not start your car!
It’s a big no for you to start the car, instead you can just proceed with towing. If you try to start your car in this flood situation, it could damage the car even further. Eventually, will make the insurance company cancel your claim for the reason of your own negligence.
3. Tow your vehicle to the workshop
You need to bring your car direct to your panel workshop or nearest workshop. This will quicken the claim process.
The sooner you make a claim, the sooner your vehicle will be fixed.
I hope these can ease a little of your worries.
