Because of how quickly it spreads and how deadly it is, the term Omicron alone is enough to make a person tense up in a just seconds.

On his Facebook page, Dr Hisham Abdullah, Director-General of Health, has warned the public about the rising cases of hazardous variants in Malaysia.

He projected that increased vaccination rates, as well as the deployment of public health measures (compliance with SOPs) and periodic self-test coverage, would minimise the severity of cases and hospital admissions prompted by the Omicron wave, which had begun to rise.

“Cases will rise, and together we can limit the impact of the rise in infection severity, especially among the vulnerable,” Dr Hisham concluded.

He also urged the people to be aware of the situation, follow the SOPs, as well as get the booster shot.

Speaking to Varnam, a medical personnel who wished to remain anonymous said Omicron is a variant that is way more dangerous than delta and for these very reasons we have to keep adhering to the SOPs and continue to educate ourselves and keep ourselves aware of the upcoming variants.

“I think we as the public are the best witnesses that this virus has rapidly mutated itself into various variants in order to continue thriving despite our efforts to eradicate it,” she stated.

According to the 23-year-old lady, she said even with the frequent usage of the sanitiser and strictly adhering to the SOPs, the transmission of the virus can never completely become 0% because in some way there will always be contact with one another moreover international travels are also being slowly resumed hence variants can also be brought into Malaysia.

The medical worker who hails from Sungai Petani expressed regardless of the number of cases and vaccination rate, the public should continue to adhere to SOPs and practice hygienic and healthy habits in order to keep the virus at bay.

Kavitasny Selvarajoo, a worker from Kuala Lumpur said that she feels bad about this situation. During the previous lockdowns, many people were seen struggling without jobs.

“Looking at the rising number of Omicron cases now, I’m afraid that another lockdown will be announced in the future. This is just my opinion as we cannot predict what will be happening next.” she continued

Hailing from Kedah, this young lass said if Omicron cases keep increasing day by day, the economy will be affected too and there will be a possibility that the price of goods will rise too.

“The one who has a stable income would be able to survive this pandemic, imagine how will the underprivilege handle this.”

She hopes that Malaysians will strictly follow all the SOP’s so that we can stop the cases from rising.
