In a time when everyone is getting their booster shots or third vaccination dose, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has just approved CanSino’s single-dose Convidecia Covid-19 vaccine to be used as a heterologous booster.

According to the Malaymail, the application for the CanSino-type booster dosage will be available shortly via MySejahtera. Meanwhile, those encouraged to take the CanSino vaccine are those who have already received the Sinovac or CanSino Bio vaccine as a primer shot. Whilst, the qualifying period for taking this dose following the primer dose is at least three months.
Datuk Dr Mohd Nazlee Kamal, deputy group managing director of Solution Group Bhd (SGB), remarked that the booster’s approval will provide Malaysians additional alternatives when selecting vaccinations for booster doses.
He further stated that with this approval, Convidecia might now aid the government’s campaign for high booster coverage in the battle against the Omicron virus, giving importance to vulnerable groups such as the elderly.
Dr Nazlee explained that receiving a booster shot from a different vaccine than the initial two-dose vaccine would result in a greater immune response, than taking the same vaccine for booster shots.
Those who have not yet received their boosters are recommended to do so as soon as possible.
