Will this romance film take a dark turn?

At this point in their careers, when Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha star in a film together, you can bet it’s going to be something interesting. The first teaser trailer for the Vijay Sethupathi-Trisha film, 96, helmed by debutant director C. Prem Kumar, got everybody talking. The teaser is silent, without a single line of dialogue. The melancholy musical score by Govind Menon suggests the film will take a depressing turn.

Now, we get an even bigger glimpse of the film, with this new trailer. However, we still can’t gauge what the movie is going to be about by the trailer. We definitely know it’s a romance film, but nothing beyond that. Which is a good thing. It’s always great when trailers entice without spoiling.

While there isn’t much official information on what exactly the movie is going to be about, there are rumours and reports that suggest that the title of the film signifies the year 1996. Other reports suggest that the film will focus on three different stages in Vijay Sethupathi’s character’s life — 16, 36 and 96.
