AirAsia Group is proud to announce the delivery of four brand-new Airbus A321neo aircraft, marking a significant milestone in its growth journey. This addition expands the airline’s total fleet to an impressive 221 aircraft. With the arrival of these four A321neos, AirAsia now has eight operational A321neos serving AirAsia Malaysia and Thailand.
As the longest-fuselage aircraft of the Airbus’ single-aisle A320 fleet, the A321neo’s advanced technology and fuel efficiency align perfectly with AirAsia’s goals of reducing operational costs while maintaining a superior travel experience for its guests. The aircraft’s versatility allows it to land at smaller airports, serve secondary cities, and scale up operations with 30% lower costs compared to wide-body aircraft.
The highly anticipated arrival of the four aircraft immediately launched their flight operations across the two airlines, offering greater flexibility on short to medium-haul routes, including destinations like Kuching, Tawau, Shenzhen, Kunming, Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai, and more.
CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, Bo Lingamsaid: “This year marks a pivotal year for AirAsia’s growth as we resume our Airbus A321neo deliveries, aligning with the strong forecast demand. These new aircraft are game-changers, allowing us to enhance our route network, offer longer-range flights, and improve operational efficiency. We are also proud to be working with AerCap, the largest aviation leasing company in the world known for its extensive portfolio and global reach which underscores the industry confidence in our growth trajectory, while Airbus remains instrumental in our expansion plans over the next five years.
“These aircraft will play a crucial role in enhancing our Fly-Thru services, which have been vital to our network expansion. They complement our direct flights by providing affordable connections for our guests to a variety of unique and unexplored destinations worldwide. This year, Fly-Thru passengers have increased to 18%, and with the addition of the new aircraft, we expect this number to rise to 25% by 2025.”
“Looking to the future, we expect our fleet to grow to over 300 aircraft within the next five years, allowing us to serve more than 100 million passengers annually. This expansion marks the start of a new era for AirAsia as the world’s first low-cost network carrier, with the goal of connecting ASEAN with the rest of the world and vice versa.”
In the first half of 2024, AirAsia introduced 20 new routes across the Group, reaching over 130 destinations and serving more than 31 million passengers. With an impressive load factor of 90%, the airline continues to showcase strong performance and resilience. Additionally, AirAsia launched a new airline in Cambodia and proudly received the Skytrax World’s Best Low-Cost Airline Award for the 15th time.
