“This is not the Kolkata I came back to, not the kolkata I left (a) flourishing career outside (of Kolkata) to come back and live. I represented Kolkata and won the title of Miss India. I represent this city. I represent this county I stand up for every girl every citizen who is scared to live in this situation”.

That is how Miss India Universe 2010 Ushoshi Sengupta ended her Facebook post about the harrowing events that took place on a late night in Kolkata. The model-turned-actor took an Uber with a colleague on Monday night and was soon caught in a horrific incident. Almost 15 men and boys on motorcycles had chased down her Uber, dragged the driver out of the car and beat him up.

Ushoshi tried breaking the attack but it was all in dismay. She filmed the entire incident on her phone and then ran across the road to a nearby police station to ask for help. Unfortunately, the  Charu Market Police Station refused to take any complaint and advised her to approach the Bhawanipore Police Station instead.

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the incident on the basis of video grabs provided by Sengupta and CCTV footage.
