Universiti Malaya (UM) has named Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A Berhad, as an adjunct professor for a three-year tenure. In a statement, UM highlighted that Fernandes’ vast expertise in the aviation and business sectors will provide valuable knowledge and perspectives to students, faculty members, and the university as a whole.
UM acknowledged Tony Fernandes’ 35 years of experience across diverse industries, emphasizing that he will offer students “exceptional access to industry expertise” and help connect academic learning with practical business applications.
“Forging partnerships with prominent industry leaders and institutions in vital sectors is a key element of the university’s strategy. The ultimate outcomes will play a significant role in advancing our nation’s development by fostering impactful results that contribute to skill enhancement and knowledge cultivation,” said UM Vice-Chancellor Noor Azuan Abu Osman.
Tony Fernandes, renowned for turning AirAsia into one of Asia’s leading airlines, will conduct lectures, seminars, and workshops throughout his term as an adjunct professor. In addition to sharing his expertise with students, he is anticipated to play a key role in helping Universiti Malaya establish strategic collaborations with both local and international organizations.
He is also set to deliver several lectures, seminars, and workshops each year during his tenure, and will also support UM in forging strategic partnerships with organizations at both the national and international levels. His involvement is expected to strengthen UM’s connections with industry, promoting opportunities for research, innovation, and real-world application in various fields.
