The government has approved the expansion of training programs for Chinese and Tamil languages at teacher training institutes, alongside the national language.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance the educational landscape by enabling the Ministry of Education to train a larger pool of teachers proficient in these languages. This expansion is essential for ensuring that Tamil and Chinese national-type schools have access to adequately qualified educators.
He also mentioned that the government has put initiatives in place to enhance the economic empowerment of the population while ensuring that no ethnic group in the country is marginalized. This includes programs specifically aimed at the Indian community, as stated by Anwar, who also holds the position of finance minister.
Also in attendance were Perak Chief Minister Saarani Mohamad and Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh. Last month, Anwar reiterated that the government’s commitment to the Indian community would persist through Budget 2025, which is set to be presented on October 18.
The Prime Minister also stated that the government has never overlooked the welfare of the Indian community and is consistently striving to enhance various critical areas, including education, places of worship, and employment opportunities. He pointed to previous allocations made to the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit and the increased funding for initiatives like the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia.
By increasing the number of trained teachers in these languages, the government is not only supporting the cultural and linguistic diversity of Malaysia but also reinforcing its commitment to providing quality education in national-type schools. This move is expected to improve the educational experience for students in these communities, allowing them to learn in their native languages while also strengthening their overall academic foundation.
