Arvend Applasamy, the Indian Affairs Special Officer to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has prioritized the education of Indian students. He has assisted over 200 Indian students, particularly those from B40 families, in continuing their education.
Recently, Arvend Applasamy provided financial assistance to several Indian students attending public universities, helping to cover their registration fees. Some of these students had been working part-time jobs to manage their university expenses, making Arvend’s contribution a timely and much-needed relief. His support not only eases their financial burden but also allows them to focus more on their studies without the added stress of managing tuition costs.
Arvend Applasamy emphasized, “Poverty should never be a barrier to education. Education has the power to transform not just the future of a student, but the future of an entire family for generations. It is the solution to many of the challenges faced by our community. That is why students should not abandon their education due to financial difficulties. I am here as a brother to support all Indian students in continuing their education.”
He also reflected on his own past, sharing that he once walked the same path as the students are now. He faced many struggles in pursuing his education but ultimately succeeded in completing his studies. Understanding the burden these students are experiencing, having been in the same situation himself, he now offers his support to help ease their journey.
The students who received financial assistance expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Arvend for his support. They acknowledged his continuous efforts in helping many within the Indian community. The students emphasized that this financial aid has greatly alleviated their burdens and will be instrumental in allowing them to continue their studies without interruption.
Arvend stated that he is committed to helping more Indian students from B40 families who are struggling to continue their higher education. He also advised Indian students not to focus solely on academics while at university, but to actively participate in extracurricular activities to develop their leadership skills, which will benefit them in the future.
