The Singaporean Tamil period drama series ‘Ayya Veedu’ (Sir’s House) has achieved a significant milestone on the international stage. Produced by Tantra Television and broadcast on Mediacorp Vasantham, the series was honoured with the prestigious Best Digital Fiction Series Award at the 29th Asian Television Awards. The ceremony, held last night in Jakarta, Indonesia, celebrated excellence in television and digital media across Asia.

The critically acclaimed ‘Ayya Veedu’ (Sir’s House) is a creative collaboration between talents from Malaysia and Singapore. The series was produced and directed by JK Saravana, the Chairman and Founder of Tantra Inc – Group of Companies. Drawing inspiration from his own family, particularly his late grandfathers, George Suppiah and Muthusamy, JK Saravana crafted this project as a heartfelt tribute to their legacy. The series is masterfully written by Malaysian writer Yuwaji and Singaporean writer Shivashree, bringing to life a captivating narrative that has resonated with audiences.

The musical score, which adds depth and emotion to the storytelling, is composed by the talented Malaysian composer Thiban. A large and talented cast of Singaporean and Malaysian actors and actresses came together to bring to life the unique story penned by Yuwaji and Shivashree. Their combined efforts, alongside the exceptional writing and music, have elevated ‘Ayya Veedu’ into a standout production that continues to captivate viewers with its rich storytelling and artistry.

This groundbreaking series, set across the 1920s and 1990s, tells the story of a Singaporean Tamil family whose legacy spans over a century. Drawing inspiration from real people and events, it delves into themes of community spirit, love, friendship, familial ties, and enduring relationships. ‘Ayya Veedu’ serves as a symbolic representation of Singaporean families, capturing their shared values and timeless connections.

A 1920s two-story, 6,000-square-foot shophouse set was specially constructed in Singapore to serve as the backdrop for the filming of ‘Ayya Veedu’ (Sir’s House). This elaborate set was brought to life by the renowned Kollywood production designer Rajeevan, known for his exceptional work in Indian cinema, along with his children, Surya Narayanan Rajeevan and Chandralekha Rajeevan. Their collaborative effort in crafting this authentic period setting played a pivotal role in capturing the essence of the era and enhancing the series’ visual appeal.

JK Saravana, alongside the Group’s Chief Creative Director, Nanthakumar T, and Chief Operations Officer & CEO (Malaysia), JK Shatesh, proudly accepted the award in Jakarta.

The success of ‘Ayya Veedu’ (Sir’s House) at the 29th Asian Television Awards stands as a reflection to the power of collaboration, creativity, and cultural storytelling. By seamlessly blending exceptional writing, direction, music, and performances, the series has not only highlighted the richness of Singaporean Tamil heritage but also bridged artistic talents across Malaysia and Singapore. This remarkable achievement is a proud moment for the entire team behind ‘Ayya Veedu’ and a celebration of the enduring legacy of Tamil storytelling in the global entertainment landscape.
