“Magic happens when you don’t give up, even when you want to. The universe always falls in love with a stubborn heart.” – J.M. Storm.

This quote resonates deeply with many, but for a 24-year-old teacher from Kuala Lumpur, it has become a living reality.

Taanusiya Chetty, affectionately known as Taanu, was crowned Miss World Malaysia 2024 at the grand coronation event held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) yesterday.

Taanu not only captivated the judges with her elegance and grace but also impressed them with her intellect, earning the prestigious title along with RM 50,000 in cash and prizes.

A Stubborn Fighter

Success is never an easy journey; it is often paved with hardship and setbacks. Taanu’s life has been no exception. At just 14 years old, she tragically lost her mother in an accident, a heart-wrenching experience that brought her to the lowest point of her life.

Healing from such a devastating loss took time, but as the quote says, the universe always finds a way for those who remain determined.

In her darkest moments, when she felt she had lost the one person who had always been there for her, Taanu found support in her stepmother.

Her stepmother became her pillar, offering love, guidance, and encouragement through every challenge.

Taanu pursued her undergraduate studies, majoring in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), and went on to achieve her dream of becoming a teacher.

While in university, she also worked as a part-time model and was selected to represent the Ratu Wanita Malaya organization at the Miss Global Malaysia 2023 beauty pageant.

A Kind Humanitarian

Beyond her beauty and intellect, Taanu’s heart shines through her humanitarian work. She runs a campaign called “Be The Change – Malaysia,” aimed at reaching out to disadvantaged youths in Malaysia.

“The term ‘BE THE CHANGE’ represents the idea of being the change in one’s own life,” Taanu explains. “There are numerous challenges faced by young people today, and the least we can do is stand by them. If we unite, we can make a profound difference in someone’s life.”

Since launching the campaign in 2022, Taanu has made a tangible difference in the lives of many youths, offering them hope and support for a brighter future.

Taanu will now represent Malaysia at the Miss World pageant next year, where she will compete with extraordinary women from around the globe.

Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, kindness, and the unyielding belief that no matter the obstacles, a stubborn heart can transform dreams into reality.
