Our Malaysian Tamil film, ‘Naam Katra Isai,’ directed by Saresh D7, is a widely acclaimed production that premiered last year. The film garnered numerous prestigious awards and recognition on both local and international platforms. Adding to its list of achievements, ‘Naam Katra Isai’ reached another significant milestone yesterday. It was honoured with the Special Jury Award at the 33rd Malaysian Film Festival, organized by FINAS (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia).

This represents a significant milestone for Malaysian Tamil cinema. Produced by SLY Entertainment, ‘Naam Katra Isai’ offers an authentic portrayal of the lives of talented musicians, depicting their challenges and triumphs through a compelling narrative. The film highlights their struggles and unyielding resilience, capturing their unwavering determination to overcome industry obstacles and pave their own paths to success.

Notably, ‘Naam Katra Isai’ was the only Malaysian Tamil film to receive an award yesterday. Earning recognition from FINAS is a prestigious accomplishment, especially for a film that marks the directorial debut of Saresh D7. With this milestone, Saresh has established himself as a talented director, making a lasting impression on Malaysian Tamil cinema.

The film was also shortlisted for Best Musical Score and Best Theme Music, both composed by Boy Radge, with Saresh D7 contributing as the lyricist.

When asked how he feels about the achievement and the accolades ‘Naam Katra Isai’ has received this year, director Saresh D7 humbly shared, “It’s nothing less than a team victory. This success is dedicated to everyone who contributed to making this possible. Without the team’s hard work and the unwavering support of the audience, none of this would have been achievable. This is not an overnight triumph but the result of years of effort and dedication invested in bringing this film to life. I want to share this moment with all the filmmakers, artists, technicians, and behind-the-scenes teams who made this journey possible.”

The film has notably garnered multiple awards and accolades at esteemed events, including the Edison Awards, the 15th Norway Tamil Film Festival, and the MICA Awards. For those who missed the opportunity to catch the film in theaters, it is now available for streaming on Netflix.
