Veteran comedian Sathia Periasamy, widely recognized by his stage name Sathiya and his iconic catchphrase “Sudah tukar ka,” has expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Ziarah Seni Madani initiative by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas). The initiative has provided significant financial support for his ongoing stroke treatment, helping to ease his burden.
Sathiya, 60, best known for his role as Ravi in the sitcom Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu, requires treatment three times a week, costing RM200 per session.
“I am truly grateful for the Ziarah Seni Madani initiative by Finas and the Communications Ministry. It will greatly help in making my treatment expenses more manageable,” said Sathiya.
As part of the initiative, Sathiya received a cash donation and a food basket from Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching at his residence today. Also present was Finas Chairman Kamil Othman.
Sathiya was reportedly admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur after experiencing numbness in his arms and legs while having breakfast at home with his wife. While the assistance does not entirely cover his medical expenses, he expressed his gratitude and happiness for the support and the thoughtful visit.
“I just want to live happily without being a burden to anyone. That’s all I wish for,” he shared, despite facing restricted mobility after suffering a stroke in July.
Sathiya expressed his intention to continue acting and shared his enthusiasm for taking on new roles if the opportunity arises.
“In two months, I’ll be portraying a villain, delivering advice while seated. Although I can’t walk yet, I’m content as long as I can speak. Who knows, I might regain the ability to walk in a few months,” he shared.
Teo informed reporters that the initiative has already benefited 48 artistes, with plans underway to extend support to at least 100 artistes next year.
