The Arunagirinathar event is a celebration aimed at fostering unity and discipline among Indian youths, and is currently being held in eight cities across Malaysia. However, calls are growing for the event to expand nationwide to ensure more young people benefit from its spiritual and cultural guidance.

Shanmugam Mookan, Special Officer to the Prime Minister, emphasized its importance of broadening the reach of the event. Speaking at the event as the chief guest, Shanmugam highlighted how celebrations like the Arunagirinathar plays a crucial role in shaping the values and ambitions of Indian Youth. He noted that expanding events like this could lead to a more united and disciplined community.

Shanmugam also shared that the Malaysian government has been actively supporting initiatives aimed at uplifting the Indian community. Last year, the Prime Minister’s Department allocated RM10 million for Indian community development. A portion of this, RM230,000, was granted to the Malaysian Hindu Sangam for the Thirumurai recitation ceremony. Additionally, financial aid was extended to Indian social movements, Tamil schools, and Indian students in need of educational assistance.

Cultural and Religious Enrichment

The current event is running from December 25 to January 4, has introduced new programs to enhance cultural and religious knowledge among participants. In Ipoh, for the final four days, religious culture classes known as Amudham were conducted, drawing participation from 110 students. The sessions, led by esteemed Porkizhikavingar So So Mee Sundaram, provided valuable insights and spiritual guidance to the youth.

One of the event’s highlights was the historic Vel Pooja in Ipoh, featuring 108 sacred Vels. This marked the first time such a grand-scale ritual had taken place in the city’s Arunagirinathar Festival history, with 160 women actively participating in the sacred ceremony.

The Arunagirinathar event success in fostering spiritual growth and cultural pride has prompted calls for it to be celebrated more extensively throughout Malaysia. Organizers believe that expanding the festival will strengthen ties within the Indian community and provide a positive path for youth development.

As the event continues to inspire and guide, the hope remains that it will grow to become a significant nationwide event, enriching the lives of Indian youth across the country and preserving Malaysia’s rich Indian heritage.
