As digital technology continues to advance rapidly, the Ministry of Digital Technology has prioritized the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Awareness Program as its key initiative for the year. This program aims to ensure that the benefits of AI and digital applications reach people effectively.
Spearheaded by the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO), the program will also highlight the importance of cybersecurity, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to fostering a safe and informed digital environment, according to Minister of Digital Technology Gobind Singh Deo.
“Yes, that is our objective. We have established the National AI Office because we firmly believe in the importance of promoting technological awareness. Furthermore, we aim to engage all sectors of society, including the public, the workforce, and the education sector. Therefore, we launched this programme last month to ensure that more technology-related awareness initiatives are organized throughout this year,” he said.
On January 4th, after inaugurating the final event of the 2024/2025 National Information and Communication Technology competition for Tamil schools in Cyberjaya, Gobind Singh made this statement.
He explained that to ensure the seamless integration of AI technology education in schools, his department will collaborate with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education to provide comprehensive support. This includes ensuring adequate facilities in educational institutions and organizing AI technology awareness programs for school students.
Meanwhile, Gunasekaran Kandasamy, Chairman of the 2024 National Information and Communication Technology Competition, remarked that technology-related competitions not only ignite enthusiasm among students but also create valuable opportunities for them to progress to the next level.
“This competition began with the first round conducted online at the state level, attracting nearly 2,100 student participants. Of these, 240 top-performing students qualified for the final round held today. The competition featured five different categories,” he said.
“Winning this competition has ignited my passion to further enhance my skills in technology-related fields,” said Haripriya Thiagu, a participant and student from SJKT Ladang Henrietta.
“Schools should be encouraged to organize more competitions like this. Such events offer valuable opportunities for both students and teachers to participate and improve their skills,” said Purushothaman Munusamy, a teacher at SJKT Ko Sarangapany.
The growing emphasis on digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in education is paving the way for a future where students, educators, and the broader community are equipped with essential skills to thrive in the digital age. The Ministry of Digital Technology, in collaboration with various sectors, is committed to fostering awareness and integration of AI technology through comprehensive programs and initiatives.
Events like the National Information and Communication Technology competition serve as a platform to inspire students from Tamil schools and encourage skill development. As AI and technology-related competitions continue to grow, they offer students valuable opportunities to expand their knowledge, while also emphasizing the importance of collaboration among schools, the workforce, and educational institutions. With these efforts, the foundation is being laid for a future where technological advancements are accessible and beneficial to all.
