A fire broke out at SJKT Air Tawar yesterday, causing significant damage to several parts of the school. According to Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operation Division assistant director, approximately 70% of the school was affected by the fire.
The fire resulted in the destruction of three classrooms, a science laboratory, a storeroom, and a canteen. This has left our community in shock, as the damage will likely impact the students’ learning environment in the coming weeks. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as only a small number of teachers and students were present at the time of the incident.
A team of firefighters from Ayer Tawar and Sitiawan fire and rescue stations, assisted by the Ayer Tawar and Pantai Remis Volunteer Fire Brigade, was dispatched to the scene immediately after a call was received at 11:52 am. Their quick response and coordinated efforts helped contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the school.
Upon their arrival, the fire was found to be under control and successfully confined to the affected areas. The firefighting operation, which involved extensive efforts to extinguish the flames and ensure the site was safe, was concluded at 1:59 pm. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the swift action of the fire and rescue teams ensured that no one was hurt, highlighting the importance of emergency preparedness and cooperation among local authorities.
