The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has officially launched applications for the Malaysian Indian Transformative Agri Programme (MITAP) 2024/2025. This initiative seeks to nurture a new wave of skilled and competitive agricultural entrepreneurs from the Indian community.
Scheduled to commence in April 2025, MITAP will be implemented through two key initiatives: the Agricultural Development Grant Assistance Programme and the Young Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme. The programme, organized in partnership with MARDI Corporation Sdn Bhd (MARDICorp), will utilize established agricultural training modules to ensure effective knowledge transfer and skill development.

P. Prabakaran, Chairman of MITRA’s Special Task Force, revealed that a total of RM3.8 million has been designated for MITAP 2024/2025. This funding aims to create a supportive ecosystem that encourages Indian entrepreneurs to participate actively in the agricultural sector.
“Many farmers from the Indian community have previously highlighted the challenges they face in agriculture, particularly the lack of adequate funding. MITRA is now collaborating with MARDICorp to address these issues,” he stated during a press conference.
As part of the Agricultural Development Grant Assistance Program, 100 qualified participants will first participate in a two-day Business Model Canvas seminar. Following this, 70 individuals will be chosen to attend a comprehensive five-day technical agriculture training course at MARDICorp.
The technical training will cover various areas, including food crop cultivation, dairy cattle management, beekeeping techniques, oyster mushroom farming, freshwater aquaculture, and frozen food processing technology.

Prabakaran stated that the 70 chosen participants will qualify for Agricultural Development Grants of up to RM30,000 each and will be supervised by MARDICorp for a period of six months. Priority will be granted to B40 individuals aged 18 and older who possess a valid business license or registration and have access to suitable land or space for agricultural ventures.
Regarding the Young Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme, Prabakaran noted that it provides a comprehensive 10-month agricultural training course, with 30 successful participants receiving a Malaysian Skills Certificate (Level 3).
He stated that participants will be granted access to 0.40 hectares of leased land in Selangor and Johor for a duration of six months, where they can cultivate their projects with guidance and supervision from MARDICorp.
