In a milestone step to uplift and strengthen the economic development of the Indian Community. Tekun Nasional has allocated RM100 Million to empower and boost the economic development of the Indian Community.

Announced by Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk R. Ramanan, this allocation is the largest amount since 2015 designated for the Indian community. In addition RM 70M to the RM 30M that was announced in Tekun’s 2025 budget with the approval of the Prime Minister to benefit the rakyat.

Speaking at the press conference of a Pongal celebration, he said RM 50 million would be given through SPUMI Goes Big Financing Scheme which would be for 100 entrepreneurs, whilst the remaining RM50 million would be given through Indian Community Entrepreneur Development (SPUMI) is to support 3500 entrepreneurs.

This initiative is expected to benefit over 4500 Indian entrepreneurs to expand and build more opportunities in any competitive market. Both of the schemes are made to offer support including mentorship to help entrepreneurs.

“This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring no community is left behind in the nation’s economic progress. I believe this funding will uplift the living standards of the Indian community and significantly contribute to Malaysia’s economic growth,” he said at a press conference after the National Level Pongal Day Celebration here today.

Under SPUMI, it is said that Tekun also offers loans from RM1000 to RM 50,000 for eligible applicants while SPUMI (Goes Big Financing) provides between RM50,000 to RM100,000 with the approval process that takes less than 14 days.

Datuk Ramanan also shared the government’s concern and commitment to ensure everyone gets the support and ensures that no one is left behind in the economic process. This initiative was taken in 2008 with over RM500M has been given to over 26,000 Indian entrepreneurs nationwide. And in 2024, RM58.9M was allocated to over 1800 Indian entrepreneurs under SPUMI and for SPUMI (Goes Big Financing) helped over 280 entrepreneurs with total finance of RM12.6M.

He also urged the entrepreneurs who has secured the financial support to make regular payments to help and benefit more entrepreneurs in the future.

To those in the Indian community who are interested and need this support, Datuk Ramanan has said they can submit their application through the Tekun National website or visit any Tekun office.
