As Thaipusam approaches on 11th February, maintenance and repairs are in works at Batu Caves Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple. Among the works that are being carried out, the arrangements for women restrooms and new tiling are expected to be done by the festival.
Tan Sri R. Nadarajah, the chairman of the temple revealed that about RM6 million has been spent till date for the repairs and maintenance around the temple. Emphasizing that enhancing the facilities for the devotees are the priority for the temple management.
“Before this, we spent RM5mil to build two complexes at the temple and then added the cost to build special toilets for women”, he said.
Along with that, he has also added that they are speeding the works so it will be ready to be used by the devotees during Thaipusam.
They are not just focusing on physical upgrades for the temple. It was also said that there will be multiple activities of the Indian Community that would take place at the National Pongal Unity Celebration at Batu Caves on 19th January. Earlier, at Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Tan Sri Nadarajah and his wife conducted a Pongal celebration with over 100 devotees. Many devotees who attended the Pongal celebration have shared that it was no less lively this year.
