The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has announced the opening of applications for the 2024/2025 EC-Council Cybersecurity Professional Certification Programme. This initiative aims to address skill shortages and lower unemployment rates in the cybersecurity and information technology (IT) sectors.

According to MITRA Special Task Force Chairman P. Prabakaran, the programme is available to Indian graduates holding a diploma or bachelor’s degree in IT. It offers a four-month training programme free of charge, along with career placement opportunities for 200 participants.

“While many local IT graduates successfully complete their studies, they often struggle to enter the cybersecurity industry due to a lack of relevant skills. This programme seeks to bridge that gap and tackle unemployment by providing participants with a living allowance as well,” he stated during a press conference yesterday.

The programme, organized by Intellize Tech Services Sdn Bhd in partnership with EC-Council, the world’s leading cybersecurity certification authority, offers certifications in Security Specialist, Certified Network Defender, and Certified Ethical Hacker. These certifications are valued at nearly RM17,000.

Participants will also undergo training in soft skills, including professional etiquette and resume writing, he added.

“Given the significant costs involved, participants will sign a contract with Intellize. Those who fail to complete the programme will be required to reimburse the expenses,” Prabakaran explained.
Currently, nearly 50 participants have been selected, with training scheduled to commence in February 2025. Each phase will accommodate 25 participants, he noted.

The 2024/2025 EC-Council Cybersecurity Professional Certification Programme represents a valuable opportunity for Indian graduates to enhance their skills, gain industry-relevant certifications, and secure career placements in the rapidly growing field of cybersecurity.

By addressing skill gaps and providing comprehensive support, including soft skills training and a living allowance, this initiative demonstrates MITRA’s commitment to empowering the Indian community and reducing unemployment in the IT sector. With training set to begin in early 2025, the programme is poised to make a significant impact on the participants’ professional journeys and the cybersecurity industry as a whole.

The application deadline is January 31. Click HERE to apply.
