A total of RM3.6 million from the RM100 million allocation for TEKUN has been distributed to 143 Indian entrepreneurs since its announcement that was made on 14th January 2025, according to Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development, Datuk Seri R Ramanan.
The funds were allocated through the Indian Community Entrepreneur Development Scheme (SPUMI) and SPUMI Goes Big programmes. Of the RM3.6 million. RM 555,000 was distributed to 14 entrepreneurs under SPUMI Goes Big, while RM3.061 million was provided to 129 entrepreneurs through SPUMI.
Datuk Ramanan emphasized that to ensure the effective management and distribution of the RM100 million allocation, he will personally oversee the monthly monitoring for SPUMI and SPUMI Goes Big. These initiatives aim to empower Indian entrepreneurs and enhance economic development within the community.

Previously, it was announced that RM100 million would be allocated under Tekun with RM50 million for each programme. He expressed that these funds will benefit around 5000 Indian entrepreneurs this year, allowing them to expand their businesses.
Encouraging the Indian entrepreneurs to get this opportunity, Datuk Ramanan highlighted that applications can be made via Tekun website or the nearest Tekun office. Under SPUMI, eligible applicants can receive financing between RM1000-RM50,000. Whist, SPUMI Goes Big, provides funding between RM50,000 and RM100,000.
Datuk Ramanan, urged the Indian Community to utilize these resources to improve their economic standing and contribute to Malaysia’s economic growth. At the same time, he also said the need for responsible repayment by the entrepreneurs who received this financial assistance. Given that Tekun operates these initiatives using internal funds rather than new allocation, timely repayment is crucial to ensure that it can be continued to support the future entrepreneurs who need it too.
With the structured allocation of funds and proper monitoring, the Tekun programme is set to play a crucial role in fostering entrepreneurship and economy within the Indian community in Malaysia.
