Hartasuma Sdn Bhd, the company behind the Penang Hill cable car project is set to develop a motorised lift system to ease access to the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple, one of the most celebrated temple for Thaipusam or most visited murugan temple in Malaysia.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has made an official announcement during the Thaipusam celebration at the temple, he stated that the project cost is estimated between RM4 million to RM6 million and it will at least take two years to complete the whole development.

He ensured that Hatsuma will conduct a feasibility study over the next six months to determine the best system for the 100m height temple. The initiative is said to benefit and help the ones who have difficulties climbing such heights such as pregnant womens, senior citizens, and the disabled ones. To reach the temple it takes more than 500 steps, this will benefit many who wish to complete their prayers or visit the temple.
CM Chow also mentioned Hartasuma for taking this project as their corporate social responsibility and to help the needs of devotees.

The announcement was made with the presence of Digital Minister Gobind Singh, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, the temple’s committee members and a few representatives from the Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB). The chairman of PHEB Chairman RSN Rayer expressed gratitude for taking this initiative, and acknowledging the importance for the millions of devotees who visit the temple often.
They also thanked the Hartasume on behalf of the devotees for this much needed development. The Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple, commonly known as the Waterfall Hilltop Temple, was built in the 18th century and remains one of the largest temples for Murugan.
