The Ministry of Transport has pledged to improve safety measures at train stations following the tragic incident at Titiwangsa LRT station, where a visually impaired passenger lost their life after falling onto the tracks. In response to the tragedy, Minister of Transport Anthony Loke expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public that immediate and long term safety enhancements will be implemented.
Strengthening Safety Measures
Anthony Loke emphasized that the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with Prasarana will conduct an investigation on the tragic incident. Additionally, he has directed the public transport operator to reexamine and strengthen safety protocols across all train stations with special focus on facilities for people with disabilities (OKU).

Among the measures to be implemented, Prasarana will introduce smart CCTV systems capable of detecting risky behaviors at train stations. These advanced surveillance systems will enhance monitoring capabilities, allowing for swift intervention in case of emergencies.
Prasarana is also planning to install platform screen doors across all LRT lines in the long term to provide an added layer of passenger protection. While such infrastructure enhancement requires extensive planning and investment, the government will remain committed to ensure safe public transport experience for the people.
Call For Increased Awareness and Assistance
Anthony Loke urged passengers, particularly those who require additional assistance to seek help from Prasarana staff or Police stationed at train platforms. Ensuring that the people with disabilities (OKU) receive proper help and guidance remain top priority for public transport authorities.
What Was The Incident?
According to reports, the victim (a visually impaired man) fell on the railway tracks at approximately 7.45 AM before being struck by an oncoming train. He was found dead at the scene and body was taken to the hospital for a post mortem examination.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, the operator of the LRT system, has expressed condolences and pledged full cooperation with authorities in the investigation. The company also stated that it will enhance monitoring and safety measures to prevent any incidents such in the future.
The tragic incident has made discussions on the necessity of better safety infrastructure at train stations. With the government and Prasarana taking proactive steps, it remains to be seen how quickly these safety improvements will be implemented to protect passenger and prevent any tragedies in the future.
