In an extraordinary example of determination, compassion and endurance, David Christopher, an ultra runner, has successfully completed his 400 KM marathon while raising over RM130,000 for the welfare of stray animals. His inspiring journey not only tested his physical and mental limits but also proved that sports can be a powerful force for social good.
The remarkable run took place in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Route 68 Ultra, a marathon that challenges participants to push their bodies to the extreme. This year there were 15 runners who embarked on the race, which kicked off on 18th February 2025 and it took five days to complete. Covering the total elevation gain of 6114 meters, the ultramarathon took runners through difficult areas of Genting Sempah, Bukit Tinggi and Janda Baik.

David Christopher, a seasoned runner, crossed the finish line in 65 hours, 33 minutes and two seconds. While completing such a race, David’s mission was beyond a personal achievement, he took this to make a difference by raising funds for the stray animals.
Running For A Cause: To Support TNRM Malaysia
David dedicated his ultramarathon journey to raise funds for Trap Neuter Release Manage (TNRM) Malaysia, a non profit organisation focused on controlling stray animal population. When he initially launched his fundraising campaign, he had a goal in mind by hoping to raise anywhere between RM 5000 and RM 15,000. However, it was an unexpected traction and by the time he started the race, donations had already reached RM120,000.
The pledges were structured to motivate David to push beyond his limits, many donors agreed to double their contributions if he manage to complete the 400km. One of the highest single pledges from a donor who promised RM 10 per kilometer, meaning David’s completion of the race would get him RM 8000 as a donation. Which made him not turn his back.
“I told myself, unless I got hit by a truck, I was going to finish”. David said, demonstrating the determination that carried him through the challenging race.
Despite completing the ultramarathon, David realized that the actual race had fallen slightly short of the 400km. Not wanting to leave any room for doubts, he made the decision to run an additional 100 km on 22nd February just days after completing his initial challenge. He finished the extra kilometer race in 13 hours and 47 minutes.

“I knew the course in this race was slightly under distance, so I wanted to remove all doubts from anybody’s mind. When I did a recovery run on Saturday morning, I felt really good. Then I just had the thought in my head. Could I actually help the fundraiser even further”.
David’s commitment did not go unnoticed. After he posted his decision on running an extra 100km, more pledges came pouring in. Within hours, he had secured another RM 6,300, further paying for his efforts to help the stray animals.
Running 400km is not easy, especially with the weather in Malaysia. Throughout the ultramarathon, David faced intense exhaustion and dehydration, where he had to take micro naps which was his only way to rest. Over the 65 hours, he managed to sleep for two hours.

David Christopher’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience and the impact of using personal passion to a meaningful change. By combining his love for race with his dedication to animal welfare, he has managed to raise more funds than he expected that will help TNRM Malaysia to continue their work in controlling the stray population through humane and sustainable practices.
As the donations continue to roll in, David hopes his journey will inspire more people to find different ways to contribute to social goods. For those who are inspired by David’s story, donations to TNRM Malaysia are still open (HERE). Every contribution counts to create a better future for the strays.
