In an extraordinary showcase of talent, 19-year-old Mahmood Akram from Chennai India has set a world record by mastering 400 languages. His exceptional skills and talent have not only captivated the global academic community but have also positioned him as an inspiration in the polyglots community and language enthusiasts worldwide.
Mahmood’s fascination and love for language started from a very young age under his father Shilbee Mozhippriyan’s guidance who is renowned for being a polyglot who is able to speak 16 languages. His journey began when he learnt the English alphabet in just six days and Tamil’s 299 characters in three weeks. By the age of six, he has already learnt the knowledge of languages, showcasing an extraordinary talent and skill for language.

At the age of eight, Mahmood achieved the world record as the youngest multilingual typist, showcasing his ability to write and type in multiple languages. And four years later, at 12 years old, he impressed the German linguists with his fluency in 400 languages, an achievement that history will remember.
Despite his young age, Mahmood’s passion for languages extended beyond personal mastery. At 14, he advanced education opportunities outside India, enrolling in online institutions in Israel to study Arabic, Spanish, French and Hebrew. There are limited language programmes available locally which made him take his education in his own hands.
He also launched a YouTube channel that same year, dedicated to language learning, sharing his knowledge with a global audience. His teaching approach blends with cultural insights with innovative learning techniques, quickly gaining traction all over the world.

That not just gained him traction but got him students all over. By 2024, Mahmood expanded his reach, by conducting workshops in Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia. His workshop, both online and physically, has allowed thousands of students to explore different languages from ancient to modern.
Now at 19, Mahmood is currently pursuing a degree in English Literature and Animation at Alagappa University in Chennai, while studying linguistics at the Open University in the United Kingdom. His dedication to achieve both academics and his passion for languages highlights his hard work and dedication.
Despite his busy schedule, Mahmood remains committed to further grow his linguistic abilities. His love and passion for language is not just about communication, it is also about connection.
“Languages are not just about words, they are the bridge between people, and I believe mastering multiple languages allows me to connect with the world in ways most people cannot”. Said Mahmood in a recent interview.
