Aattam, the renowned dance competition formerly known as Aattam 100 Vagai, made a grand return last year, hosted by Astro. This time, the competition was bigger and more intense than ever, showcasing fierce battles between exceptionally talented dance crews. After an electrifying season, Aattam concluded last month with Hyperflex DC emerging as the champions, taking home the prestigious title along with a grand cash prize of RM50,000.

Hyperflex DC consists of six talented members: Hari Krishnan, Punithan, Vimalesh Ganesh, Vishvek Pechimuthoo, Suresh, and Harmitra Maniraju. The team battled their way through an intense competition that began with 22 teams, advancing round by round through the qualifiers to reach the grand finals. After a series of fierce performances, Hyperflex DC was ultimately crowned the champions of Aattam.

Varnam Malaysia had an exclusive interview with Hyperflex DC’s team leader, Hari Krishnan. When asked how dance has influenced his career, he shared that, in the beginning, he had no idea that dance would play such a significant role in his life. He simply enjoyed dancing and, as a huge fan of Thalapathy Vijay, he often watched his dance performances on television and imitated his moves. Seeing his passion, Hari’s father encouraged him to join dance classes, marking the start of his journey. However, he clarified that dance is not his main career—rather, it is his deep passion for dance that has brought him this far.

After joining a dance team and honing his skills, Hari Krishnan, along with his friend Monish Muhrari Ananthan, founded Hyperflex DC in 2019. Since then, the team has been making a name for itself, earning recognition in the dance community.

How Hyperflex DC Became a Force in Dance

When asked what inspired him to create a dance team, Hari Krishnan shared, “In the past, we faced many humiliations while being part of other dance teams. We didn’t receive the respect we deserved. That experience motivated my friend Monish and me to start our own team—one that values unity and teamwork. In 2019, we founded Hyperflex DC, trained our dancers, and sent them to our very first competition, ‘Agni Intervarsity.’ They won the competition, and from that moment on, we have been growing continuously as a team.”

Hyperflex DC has since become a well-respected name in the dance community, proving that perseverance, passion, and teamwork can overcome any obstacle.

Rising Above Obstacles to Claim Victory

Dance competitions are always accompanied by numerous challenges, and every team has its own set of obstacles to overcome. Hard work, sleepless nights, and time constraints are common struggles, but for Hyperflex DC, the journey was even more intense due to the severe injuries they endured during their rigorous practice sessions.

These were not just minor setbacks—they faced serious injuries, including a nose bone fracture, knee cracks, and shoulder injuries, all of which caused immense pain and hardship. However, despite the physical suffering, their unwavering team spirit and deep passion for dance became their driving force. Some team members even lost their jobs in the process, yet they refused to give up.

Despite all the hardships, they persevered and continued chasing their dreams. Their resilience and determination pushed them to keep improving at every stage, ultimately leading them to emerge as the champions of Aattam.

Aattam: A Game-Changer for the Team

The ‘Aattam’ dance competition, hosted by Astro, provided a massive platform for all participating teams, bringing them into the spotlight of a wider audience.

Hari Krishnan shared his thoughts on the impact of the competition, saying, “Since the establishment of Hyperflex, there haven’t been any major dance competitions in the Indian dance scene in Malaysia. We were eagerly looking for opportunities to participate in such competitions. After a long gap, Astro made a thrilling announcement—the return of ‘Aattam.’

We all know how electrifying ‘Aattam 100 Vagai’ was; it was one of the best dance shows. When Astro brought back ‘Aattam,’ it was an opportunity we couldn’t afford to miss. We participated with full dedication, and winning the competition was a huge milestone for us.

‘Aattam’ gave us immense recognition. I have been in the dance scene for the past 7 to 9 years, but we never received widespread acknowledgment. Now, more people know us, and they recognize that there are talented and high-quality dance teams here.”

‘Aattam’ played a significant role in shaping the journey of many dancers, providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and capabilities to a broader audience. The competition not only highlighted their skills but also gave them the recognition they deserved within the dance community and beyond. It served as a stepping stone for passionate dancers, allowing them to solidify their presence in the industry and gain opportunities that were previously out of reach.

“Aattam has taught us discipline. Some of our team members had no prior experience in participating in competitions, and this platform helped instill discipline, time management, and dedication in us—qualities that will be invaluable as we continue our journey. Before Aattam, we were not financially stable, but now we are in a slightly better position. A huge thanks to Astro for giving us this incredible opportunity,” said Hari Krishnan.

He also took a moment to express his gratitude to their mentors—Sardev, MS Vemal, Sharuba, Krishna Priyaa, Monish Muhrari, and Kalaiarasan—for their invaluable guidance. Additionally, he extended his heartfelt thanks to everyone who sponsored and supported them throughout their journey.

Hyperflex DC’s Vision for the Future

Hyperflex DC currently has only one branch in Kuala Lumpur. However, in the future, we aim to expand and establish a team in every state. Our goal is also to conduct workshops and support aspiring dancers who cannot afford dance classes. Financial constraints should never be a barrier to achieving one’s dreams, and we are committed to helping passionate individuals pursue their love for dance.

Hyperflex DC’s victory at Aattam marks just the beginning of their journey. With unwavering dedication, resilience, and a deep passion for dance, the team has proven that perseverance can turn dreams into reality. Their success story is not just about winning a competition but about breaking barriers, overcoming challenges, and inspiring future generations of dancers.
