The Malaysia Ministry of Health (MOH) is set to engage with the Public Service Commission (SPA) and the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) to address the underrepresentation of Indian trainees in its paramedical training programs. Currently, only 1% (92 out of 10,686) of trainees at MOH Training Institute are from the Indian community.

Initiatives To Boost Participation
To enhance Indian community participation in the health sector, the MOH has implemented several initiates:
- Career Exhibitions: Hosting events during the MADANI Rakyat Programme to showcase paramedical careers.
- Roadshows: Conducting MADANI Adita programmes to raise awareness.
- School Engagements: Having Career Talks and motivation sessions, providing information on scholarship and facilities available at MOH.
These efforts aim to attract more Indian youths to pursue their careers in the healthcare industry.

Parliamentary Attention
The issue was highlighted by YB Senator Dato’ Sri Vell Paari Samy Vellu, who raised the question on the current percentage of Indian trainees and the measures being taken to increase their numbers. The MOH’s proactive approach reflects its commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity within Malaysia’s healthcare sector.
