Astro’s Aattam, the highly acclaimed dance competition, recently concluded with Hyperflex DC emerging as the champions. The competition was an intense battle of talent, with every team showcasing exceptional skills and pushing their limits in each episode. As the competition progressed, the performances became even more challenging and captivating. While Hyperflex DC claimed the championship title, KLMD Boys secured the first runner-up position with their outstanding performance and unwavering dedication, proving themselves as formidable contenders on the grand stage.

KLMD (KL Mazhai Dancers) Boys is a six-member team consisting of Vikneswaran, Pubathy, Suntaravelu, Sheranishwaran, and Terence, led by their team captain, Mugilan Selvam.

Varnam Malaysia had an exclusive interview with KLMD Boys’ team leader, Mugilan Selvam. When asked about the impact of dance on his life, he shared that his unwavering passion for dance has shaped his journey in many ways. In pursuit of his dreams, he has been living alone in Kuala Lumpur for the past eight years, far from his family. Despite the challenges of being away from his loved ones, his dedication to dance has remained strong, driving him to continuously improve and achieve new milestones in his career.

That alone speaks volumes about his love and passion for dance. Notably, Mugilan and Vikneswaran have already made a name for themselves beyond Malaysia. This talented duo represented the nation on the international stage by competing in Dance Jodi Dance APAC in 2022, where they emerged as the title winners. Now, their extraordinary talent continues to shine in Aattam.

Humble Beginnings of KL Mazhai Dancers

KL Mazhai Dancers has been a well-known dance team since its early days. Established in 2011, the team has built a strong reputation in the dance community. Notably, they participated in Aattam 100 Vagai, a highly acclaimed competition that has now returned as Aattam. The team’s senior members at the time secured the 1st runner-up position in the competition, marking a significant milestone in their journey. Since then, KL Mazhai Dancers has continued to grow bigger, stronger, and more talented. Over the years, Master Xavier Francis has played a crucial role in training and guiding the team, shaping them into the exceptional dancers they are today.

Growing up watching dance shows from India on television sparked Mugilan’s passion for dance. Inspired by what he saw, he began recreating Kollywood songs, performing dance covers, and sharing them on social media. His performances received a positive response, earning him praise and recognition. Encouraged by this support, he joined the KL Mazhai Dancers team, where he honed his skills and developed his talent further. Through dedication and hard work, he has now risen to become the leader of the team.

The Challenges Behind KLMD Boys’ Success

When asked about the challenges KLMD Boys faced while training for Aattam, Mugilan shared that time management was their biggest obstacle. Since all the team members had full-time jobs, their dance practices took place late at night, often lasting until 4 or 5 a.m. Despite their exhaustion, they had to head straight to work the next day or prepare for the competition. Their countless sleepless nights, relentless dedication, and unwavering hard work ultimately paid off, earning them the well-deserved 1st runner-up position in Aattam.

How Aattam Shaped KLMD Boys’ Journey

Mugilan expressed that the Aattam stage by Astro played a crucial role in their journey. The experience they gained from the competition helped them develop stage maturity and discipline, leading to significant improvement in their performances. They learned that the amount of hard work and effort they put in would ultimately determine their success, shaping them into better dancers and performers.

KL Mazhai Dancers has been an established dance team for years, but their participation in Aattam marked a significant milestone in their journey. Six members from the team competed in Aattam under the name KLMD Boys, with four of them being fresh talents who were relatively unknown to the public.

Aattam provided them with a platform to showcase their skills and reach a wider audience. Even after the competition ended, the public continued to recognize and remember them, earning them well-deserved recognition. They feel deeply grateful and overwhelmed by the support and appreciation they have received from the audience.

Mastering the Stage with Choreography

Since KLMD Boys was an all-boys team, they were asked about the challenges of choreographing for duet songs. Mugilan explained that they were highly flexible and could adapt their energy and performance to suit any scenario. They were capable of practicing all genres of dance and had trained themselves in various styles without limiting their abilities. Their versatility allowed them to execute even duet performances with ease and confidence.

“When we performed duet songs, we also incorporated feminine dance steps for the actress’s part. We were able to adjust our energy levels and present it in a contemporary style. This approach was well-received by the audience, who praised the choreography and coordination.”

Passion and Perseverance for Global Success

Mugilan also shared that the team is eager to participate in international dance competitions and represent Malaysia on a global stage. They are working hard towards this goal with dedication and perseverance. He also expressed gratitude to the public for their unwavering support throughout their journey.

“Throughout our journey in Aattam, beyond our dedication and hard work, the cheers and support from the audience fueled us and motivated us to push our limits. We are truly grateful to the audience for the love and encouragement they showered upon us.

Additionally, we deeply appreciate the guidance and unwavering support of our Master Xavier Francis and his wife, Master Kalai, who have been the backbone of our team. Their leadership and mentorship have strengthened us as dancers. Most importantly, we are incredibly thankful to our families for their constant support and understanding. Without them, we wouldn’t have made it to the finals. Lastly, we extend our gratitude to the judges for their valuable feedback, helping us refine our skills, and above all, we are blessed by God’s grace.” he said.

KLMD Boys’ journey in Aattam has been nothing short of inspiring. Their unwavering passion, relentless dedication, and exceptional talent have propelled them to new heights, earning them well-deserved recognition in the dance community. From late-night rehearsals to standing ovations on the grand stage, they have proven that hard work and perseverance truly pay off.

As they set their sights on representing Malaysia in international dance competitions, their journey serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring dancers. With the continued support of their mentors, families, and fans, KLMD Boys are destined for even greater achievements. Their story is a testament to the power of dreams, determination, and the unbreakable bond of a team driven by a shared love for dance.
