Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized the need to build more space and opportunities for women in all aspects of the country’s development, highlighting the lack of female representation, particularly at the policy-making level. Speaking at the International Women’s Day celebration 2025, he urged every ministry to actively collaborate with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) to empower women and enhance their roles in the workforce and governance.
“Every ministry, when discussing unity, has a role for women. There must be communication and sufficient space given to women among civil servants. Although we have seen some key figures excelling in their positions, we need to do more,”

He also called on the Chief Secretary of the Government to explore the ways to further elevate women’s roles and positions in alignment with their capabilities.
While acknowledging a 30 percent increase in the appointment of women in JUSA grade of the civil service, Datuk Anwar stressed that there remains a significant room for improvement. He directed the private sector to assess the factors contributing to the underrepresentation of women in top management positions and create strategies to increase their participation.

“Even if the numbers are low, promotions should not be forced or rushed. Instead there must be a structured and well planned approach. If the government does not set an example from the outset, it will be challenging to encourage shifts later”.
Datuk Anwar also highlighted the importance of increasing women’s participation in politics, noting that while their votes are crucial in elections, their representation in parliament remains low , at just 14% far from the 30% target.
At the event he also stated that women play a crucial role in societal progress and the nation’s overall development. Their empowerment is not just about representation but about acknowledging their role behind Malaysia’s growth.
