As Tamil school students continue to achieve remarkable milestones, the list of their accomplishments keeps growing. One such outstanding achievement comes from Akilan Ilangkumaran, a former student of SJKT Tan Sri Dato’ Manickavasagam in Tanjong Malim. He has earned a prestigious spot at the Permata@Pintar National Gifted Centre, also known as Kolej Permata Pintar, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey.

From a pool of 500,000 students who participated in the screening test—consisting of an IQ assessment and a rigorous interview process—only 50 were awarded this prestigious opportunity. Akilan was among the selected few and, notably, the only student from a Tamil school to be chosen.

After successfully passing the UKM1 and UKM2 screening tests online, Akilan Ilangkumaran advanced to the UKM3 stage. He participated in the School Holiday Enrichment Program known as Program Pengayaan Cuti Sekolah (PPCS) for Computer Programming from February 1 to February 14, 2025, at Pusat Permata Pintar Negara, located at the Bangi campus of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). A total of 453 students took part in the UKM3 program.

The two-week PPCS program offers a comprehensive enrichment experience centered on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). It provides students with valuable exposure to academic pursuits, co-curricular activities in arts and sports, spiritual development programs, and educational field trips, fostering holistic growth and learning.

Akilan Ilangkumaran successfully cleared all the screening tests in the UKM 3 program and secured an admission offer from Kolej Permata Pintar.  Akilan’s achievement stands as a testament to his dedication, intelligence, and perseverance. His success not only brings pride to his school and community but also serves as an inspiration for other Tamil school students to strive for excellence. As he embarks on this new chapter at Kolej Permata Pintar, his journey highlights the importance of providing young talents with the right opportunities to unlock their full potential.
