Pavitra is the founder of DecoValet, a growing event decoration brand that reflects her passion for creativity and design. A dynamic entrepreneur, she seamlessly juggles multiple roles across both the corporate and creative worlds. With a background in chemical engineering, she works professionally in a company that designs and builds water and wastewater treatment plants. At the same time, she channels her artistic energy into DecoValet—her passion project that allows her to explore and express her love for styling, aesthetics, and meaningful celebrations.
Pavitra’s Dual Career Journey
“I’ve always been drawn to design and aesthetics. Even as I built a career in engineering, that passion never left me—it stayed quietly in the background,” Pavitra shared. “Over time, it grew into something more than just a hobby. It became a way for me to connect with people, tell stories through decoration, and bring beauty to meaningful moments. Both sides of my career fulfill different parts of who I am, and I truly wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Although DecoValet isn’t Pavitra’s full-time job, it holds just as much importance in her life. What began as a side project has gradually evolved into a second career—one driven by passion, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose.
From Humble Beginnings to a Growing Creative Force
Established in 2020, DecoValet is an event styling company that specializes in creating beautifully curated experiences for weddings, corporate events, and special occasions. With a focus on transforming ordinary spaces into meaningful, memorable settings, DecoValet brings a unique blend of creativity and elegance to every event. Whether it’s a grand celebration or an intimate gathering, their thoughtful designs and meticulous attention to detail ensure that each event feels personal, stylish, and truly unforgettable.
“What began as a heartfelt pursuit by four working adults after office hours has now blossomed into one of the most sought-after names in event styling. It started with just four of us—myself, my husband Rames, my sister Meggala, and brother-in-law Vicnes—working out of my mum’s home after our day jobs, crafting and dreaming late into the evenings.
This humble beginning laid the foundation for what DecoValet has become today. As demand grew, we moved into a larger space within a year and expanded our team to include talented individuals from diverse backgrounds. Sarvani, a designer with a finance background, brings creative ideas to life, while Girrtanaa, a mechanical engineer, drives our social media with passion.
Rames now leads as Production Head, managing everything from structure builds to event day coordination. None of this would be possible without the constant support of our parents and family, who have stood by us throughout this creative journey., ” said Pavitra.
Over the years, the team has experienced remarkable growth and transformation—evolving from handling small, intimate event setups to offering a wide range of sophisticated and customized services. Today, their expertise includes bespoke backdrop designs, detailed floral arrangements, prop styling, and full-scale creative consultations for a variety of themed events. This progression has been fueled by a strong commitment to continuous learning, creative exploration, and meaningful collaboration.
Their journey has been shaped not only by hands-on experience but also by a continuous commitment to growth through workshops and training, both locally and internationally. These opportunities have helped the team refine their craft, stay ahead of industry trends, and bring fresh, inspired perspectives to each project. Equally important have been the clients who placed their trust in DecoValet—giving the team the freedom to experiment, innovate, and bring unique visions to life. Since its inception, DecoValet has had the privilege of working with over 390 clients, a testament to their dedication and creative excellence.
“Each one of them has played a role in shaping who we are today,” Pavitra said, reflecting on their clients. “From intimate proposals to grand weddings and corporate events, we’ve poured our heart into every single setup.”
The Spark Behind DecoValet
When asked what inspired her to establish DecoValet, Pavitra shared:
“Styling and design have always been a part of who I am, even from a young age. I’ve always been drawn to colours, textures, and the art of arranging things in a way that tells a story. That passion became especially clear during my own wedding planning—every detail, from the colour palette to the mood and theme, felt incredibly personal. That experience made me realise how much joy I found in creating beautiful, meaningful spaces. For me, it wasn’t just about decoration—it was about bringing emotions to life through design.
It was actually my husband who first saw that spark in me and gently encouraged me to pursue it. He was the one who asked, ‘Why not turn this into something more?’ That single question marked the beginning of DecoValet. But this journey isn’t mine alone. My husband has been the backbone of this brand from the very start. He’s not just the support behind the scenes—he’s been the driving force right beside me every step of the way.
We started small, taking on one event at a time, but the love and encouragement we received from our early clients were truly overwhelming. Their support gave us the confidence to grow DecoValet into something deeply meaningful. And even now, we continue learning, building, and creating with the same passion that started it all.”
Pavitra’s words reflect not only her immense passion for design but also the deep support and shared vision that have driven DecoValet’s growth. While her talent and dedication have been pivotal in shaping the company, it’s clear that her husband has played a crucial role in this journey. This balance of creative passion and strong partnership has shaped DecoValet into more than just a business.
From Cultural Roots to Contemporary Designs
Among their many projects, one of their most meaningful creations was the recent International Women’s Day event at Shangri-La KL, hosted by Varnam Malaysia in collaboration with Yayasan Bank Rakyat and the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development.
“Among the weddings we’ve styled, one that stands out was a Tamil and Malayalee cultural wedding. We blended both traditions using pottery, brass elements, and fresh flowers like sampangi and marigolds to create a soulful atmosphere. The transformation was unforgettable—starting with a serene morning ceremony and quickly shifting to a vibrant reception, perfectly balancing culture and celebration.
Another memorable event was a Tamil and Chinese wedding, where we fused elements from both cultures within a rustic, bohemian style. It was a bold expression of unity, individuality, and shared traditions, resonating beautifully with the couple and their families.
Additionally, we’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned wedding vendors like Indah Wedding, which has helped us grow, exchange ideas, and create even more impactful setups as part of a larger creative team,” said Pavitra.
Turning Trials Into Triumphs
Every business and entrepreneur faces their own set of challenges. For Pavitra, managing both a full-time job and her business—two fields that are completely contrasting—has been particularly demanding. Juggling both roles is no easy feat. It requires immense passion, hard work, and strength to balance the two successfully, but her dedication has allowed her to overcome these challenges and continue thriving in both areas.
Pavitra shared that working in this industry requires unwavering dedication and resilience. The nature of event design often demands long, grueling hours—especially on setup days, which can stretch to 12 to 16 hours, and occasionally even run overnight. It’s physically and mentally exhausting, but the satisfaction of seeing everything come together makes the effort incredibly rewarding.
One of the biggest challenges she faces regularly is managing logistics and adapting to last-minute changes. From unexpected venue restrictions to unpredictable weather conditions, the ability to think on her feet has become second nature. She explains that having a solid Plan B—and sometimes even a Plan C—is essential. There have been many instances where she and her team worked through the night, problem-solving quietly behind the scenes to ensure the event unfolds seamlessly. For her, the greatest reward is knowing that the couple can enjoy their special day without ever sensing the chaos that was navigated just hours before.
“As a woman in this field—especially one balancing a demanding day job with a growing creative brand—there have been moments of doubt, exhaustion, and questioning whether I could handle it all. However, those moments have also taught me resilience and highlighted the importance of having a strong team that shares the same vision,” said Pavitra.
Through it all, what keeps me going is the love for what we do and the joy on our clients’ faces when everything comes together beautifully. The challenges shape us, refine us, and remind us that meaningful work is never without effort. – Pavitra.
Empowering Advice for Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs
When asked what advice she would give to other women dreaming of starting their own business, Pavitra said:
“Start small, but just start. You don’t need everything figured out—just take the first step. Don’t let fear or self-doubt hold you back. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and be patient with your growth. Most importantly, don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. Your pace is perfect. And whenever you feel tired, remember why you started—that ‘why’ is your strongest motivator.
The journey isn’t always easy, and there will be days when you feel like giving up. I’ve had my share of those days. It’s in those moments of doubt that resilience is born. Take a step back when needed, and trust that your hard work and passion will pay off.”
Pavitra’s journey with DecoValet is a powerful reflection to the strength of passion, resilience, and a supportive partnership. Her story is one of balancing two very different careers, yet finding a way to make both work harmoniously.
