The long time popular comedian and actor pair Santhanam and Silambarasan (STR) is set to light up the big screen once again, as the makers of the film confirms Santhanam’s will be apart of the upcoming film STR 49.
The announcement comes days after Santhanam hinted a collaboration with STR during a promotional interview for his film DD Next Level. Putting all speculation to the side, production house Dawn Pictures confirmed the actor’s onboard for the film yesterday, delighting fans who have been eagerly waiting for their reunion. Few days ago, they confirmed that actress Kayadu Lohar will be playing the female lead role in the film.

Santhanam in his recent interview, he expressed that he simple could not refuse when Simbu called,
“When Simbu called and said I should be part of the film, I didn’t even think twice”.
Their reunion dates back to Santhanam’s early days in television comedy show Lollu Sabha, where STR first noticed his comedic talent. After that, Santhanam was in many memorable films including Kadhal Azhivathillai (2002), Manmadhan (2004), Vallavan (2006), Kaalai (2008), Silambattam (2008), Vaanam (2011), Osthe (2011), Podaa Podi (2012), Vaalu (2015) and Idhu Namma Allu (2016). STR even composed music for one of Santhanam’s film, Sakka Podu Podu Raja (2017)
STR 49 is being produced by Aakash Bhaskaran under the Dawn Pictures banner. The film marks the return of director Ramkumar Balakrishnan, who made his debut with the film Parking (2023), featuring Harish Kalyan, and MS Bhaskar. Music for the film will be composed by Sai Abhayankkar.

While further details on the films story and additional cast is still under wraps, the confirmed reunion of STR and Santhanam has already generated buzz among fans. With their proven chemistry and shared history, STR 49 promises to be an exciting film.
