The Persatuan Hindu Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) proudly organized the Asuran Championship 3.0, an intervarsity Kabaddi and Football tournament, held on Saturday, 3rd May 2025, at the UPM campus. This highly anticipated event brought together students from various universities across Malaysia, fostering sportsmanship, unity, and cultural pride through competitive team sports rooted in tradition and community spirit.
Organized by Persatuan Hindu UPM in collaboration with Bahagian Hal Ehwal Pelajar UPM and the Malaysia Kabaddi Federation, the Asuran Championship 3.0 was a vibrant celebration of athleticism and camaraderie. The tournament brought together more than 500 enthusiastic students from 17 universities nationwide, all united by a shared passion for sports, teamwork, and cultural pride.
From the break of dawn at 7:00 AM until late into the evening, the atmosphere at UPM’s Padang Bola A & C and Dewan Putra 2 was electric. The football matches were met with thunderous cheers from the sidelines, while the kabaddi games kept spectators on edge with their intense, fast-paced action. Both male and female athletes displayed exceptional grit, determination, and strategic skill, making each match a thrilling spectacle of talent and sportsmanship.
Lending prestige and significance to the event, YB Tuan Ong Chun Wei, the State Assemblyman for Balakong, and Ts. Dr. Paul Selvam Devadoss, President of the Malaysia Kabaddi Federation, graced the championship with their presence. Their attendance not only highlighted the importance of youth involvement in sports but also underscored the growing recognition of traditional games like kabaddi. Both dignitaries stayed to witness the thrilling matches and personally congratulated the winning teams, offering words of encouragement and appreciation for the athletes’ hard work and dedication.
The Asuran Championship 3.0 concluded with commendable victories across all categories. Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) emerged as the champions in the men’s kabaddi category, demonstrating tactical excellence and physical endurance. In the women’s kabaddi division, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) secured first place, displaying remarkable coordination and determination. On the football front, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) claimed the championship title, reflecting their strong teamwork and competitive spirit throughout the tournament.
Beyond the medals and matches, the true essence of the event was found in its atmosphere—one defined by mutual respect, cultural pride, and lasting memories.
“This tournament was not solely about competition; it was about uniting students from various universities, backgrounds, and beliefs through the spirit of sport,” said Santosh Subramaniam, President of Persatuan Hindu UPM. “We are proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to seeing Asuran continue to grow in scale and impact in the coming years.”
