The Taiwan Open yesterday turned into a day of celebration for Malaysian shuttlers, with several surprise victories lifting national spirits, and K.Letshanaa’s composed game and sweet revenge win in the women’s singles.
The 20 year old world No.50 Letshanaa showcased grit towards Indonesia’s world No.33 Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, with 21-19, 21-12. The victory held a personal significance for Letshanaa, who won against Komang at the Asia Mixed championships. Now just one match away from her maiden World Tour Super 300 semi-final, Letshanaa is set to face Taiwan’s Chiu Pin Chian in what promises to be a crucial test for her.

Along with Letshanaa’s win, in the men’s doubles, a newly formed Malaysian pair Chen Tang Jie and Wong Vin Sean stunned world No.24 Lee Fang Chih and Lee Fang Jen, securing a tight 24-22, 21-17 victory. The match not just marks a potential turning point for Tan Jie, who is known for his mixed doubles success, but suggested strong chemistry and long-term potential in this new partnership. They will face Japan’s rising pair Takumi Nomura, and Yuichi Shimogami, who advanced after eliminating Malaysia’s Goh Boon Zhe and Loo Bing Kum.
In the men’s single category, world No.45 Justin Hoh continued his momentum with a dominant 21-16, 21-13 win over Taiwan’s Yang Su Li. And in women’s doubles world No.60 Ong Xin Yee, and Carmen Ting battled against Taiwan’s Chung Chia En and Huang Tzu Ling, with 21-19, 21-19. They will now face Indonesia’s Meilysa Puspitasari and Rachel Rose.
As Taiwan Open advances, Letshanaa’s resurgence and Malaysia’s blend of youth and resilience have become the tournament’s highlight.
